Tourney coverage
This year's Daily Racing Form/NTRA National Handicapping Championship has its own Tour, the NHC Tour with year-long bonuses for the top tournament handicappers. Dave Tuley has been commissioned to preview and write recaps on this year's qualifiers at
Daily Racing Form.

The South Point has announced a contest series leading up to the $500 buy-in South Point Finale Handicapping Contest on April 17-18, 2009. The remaining qualifying contests will have a $150 entry fee and will be held Sept. 4, Oct. 16, Nov. 20, and Jan. 19. Contestants qualify by going 5-for-5 in the mandatory races, or finishing in the Top 5.

The Coast Casinos also has its annual contests leading to the Horseplayer World Series, which will be held Feb. 19-21, 2009, at the Orleans. Qualifying contests are held coast to coast, plus here in Vegas with the Gold Coast Summer Classic on July 24-26 and in the Fall Classic at the Orleans on Oct. 9-11.

Weekly
contests
Here's Dave Tuley's column on the subject from the Dec. 22 issue of Daily Racing Form.
Whether that column had an impact or not, the Las Vegas Hilton has resumed its Super Saturday contests with a $30 entry fee and the Hilton adding $500 to the prize pool each week.
Also, the Rampart/Cannery has its free $5,000 contest the second Sunday of every month.

BC Futures
Prior to Heatseeker being scratched from the Hollywood Gold Cup last Saturday, he was the 4-1 second choice in the Breeders' Cup Classic futures at Wynn Las Vegas. But his surprising retirement has him now off the current list. The Wynn Las Vegas also has futures available on the Ladies Classic, the Filly & Mare Turf and the Sprint. The Wynn plans to add another every week or two until all the races are up (probably by late August).
Promotions
Jerry’s Nugget is now featuring Track Sandwiches every Sunday. These prime hand-carved sandwiches are just like food you’d get at the race track – juicy, fresh and tasty. These sandwiches are FREE to good race bettors. All others can purchase for $3 each. The carving station opens at 12:30 p.m. ViewFromVegas recommends the prime rib sandwich (JN is famous for prime rib).
