Nov. 13, 2009: Money Talks Invitational quarterfinal between Tim Trushel (left) and Fezzik (right) with Leroy's radio host John Kelly in the middle at the Hooter's Hotel & Casino. Fezzik went 4-2 to beat Trushel, who went 3-2-1.

Andy Ducay (left), aka ViewFromVegas' very own Dr. Odds, accepts a big fake check for winning the 2008 Leroy's Pro Challenge from Leroy's VP John Salerno.

Dr. Odds wins Leroy's pro football contest
(Leroy's press release) -- With a quarter century of experience helping set the lines in Las Vegas, Andy Ducay never had a lot of time for contest play. Ducay, aka Dr. Odds, took a chance on Leroy’s Pro Football Challenge and ended up pocketing $30,000 thanks to a stout 67 percent winning record.

“I am not a contest player, but decided to get into this one,” Ducay said. “I was near the top the whole way and played it conservatively at the end. It worked out pretty well and I won by just one game.”

Ducay outplayed his www.viewfromvegas.com compatriot Dave Tuley, Maddux Sports (5-0 in the final week) and “Jelly Donuts” by just one game with a 57-28 record. The second-place finishers each took home a cool $9,666.

“It was a good contest from Leroy’s. They offered good cards, special totals with half points, so there weren’t any ties,” Ducay said. “You just worked hard to find a good side and I would say I was mainly an underdog player with about three-quarters of my picks.”

Though not an avowed NFL picker, Ducay went in with a winning strategy.

“You have to be willing to go against the grain a bit,” he said. “A lot of weeks I was more rooting against other players’ picks than for mine, because their loss was sometimes like picking up two games.”

Ducay, 55, is originally from Chicago and has made his home in Las Vegas for the past 25 years, working for numerous sports books and line setting syndicates during that time.
